Junior Naturalist
FCCA launched a new youth program in 2018 with the goal of getting more families outside to enjoy the natural areas surrounding the Franklin Creek. We have started a three part Habitat Series for parents and their children. It is a great opportunity to spend quality time with your children along with learning about natural areas. These habitat adventures are also available for private groups. Contact the mill by phone or email for details. You can also take the kids out and explore on your own. Self-guided activities allow you to enjoy the woodlands, prairie, and creek. All of these activities count towards a Junior Naturalist certificate and a shout out on our Facebook, Instagram, and in our newsletter! |
1480 Old Mill Road
This newly acquired property is the future home of our Youth Program. The FFA helped out by cleaning debris from the house and the property shortly after it was purchased. There have been a number of days spent on cleaning up the yard and future natural area of the property; this is still an ongoing task. A trail has been established on the property and restoration of the conservation land is ongoing. For upcoming workdays follow the link. |
Headwaters
The 80 acre Headwaters property was purchased in 2009 as an essential piece of the Franklin Creek puzzle. As the name states, this is the headwaters of the Franklin Creek. Restoration efforts are ongoing to improve the prairie, savanna, woodland, wetland, and riparian habitats at the Headwaters. There are mowed paths with interpretive signage at the Headwaters that we hope to one day be able to link to the state owned land that makes up Franklin Creek State Natural Area. Click here for directions to the Headwaters. |
