What is a BioBlitz?
"Bio" means life and "Blitz" means to do something quickly and intensively. Together they make for a collaborative friendly team competition against the clock to discover and inventory as many species of flora and fauna as possible in a set location. We held our first BioBlitz in April 2018 in conjunction with Earth Day. The consensus of all participants is to do it more often. So we look forward to many more! These events start off with a brief introduction and "How to ID" presentation so no prior experience is necessary. Kids 9 and up are welcome to participate with parent supervision.
Next BioBlitz

One great way to get involved is to use the iNaturalist app to document your findings (this is the app we use for our BioBlitz). It helps scientists by adding your observations to data repositories. It's fun and easy to use. Don't worry if you aren't positive on your IDs; suggestions will pop up if you aren't sure and at least two people will have to agree on the ID before it's considered research grade.
We've created some iNaturalist guides on FCSNA. Feel free to check them out below in order to get a more complete picture of Franklin Creek! |
